There are two kinds of out of country (OOC) health services :
- Emergency services - treatment that is required unexpectedly while you are traveling outside of Canada, and
- Prior approved OOC health services – services that your Ontario physician must apply for on your behalf before the service(s) are received.
The OOC Prior Approval Program receives and reviews prior approval applications for funding of OOC health services from practising Ontario physicians on behalf of their patients who may require health services outside Canada.
I received emergency treatment while I was traveling outside of Canada. How do I receive reimbursement for the expenses I incurred?
You must complete an “Out of Province/Country Claims Submission Form”, include all original receipts and send to your local OHIP office.
